EFFECT OF WEIGHTBATH HYDROTRACTION TREATMENT ON AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
Introduction: We proposed a hypothesis that weightbath hydrotraction treatment (WHT) can influence autonomic nervous system since descending branches of cervical part of the sympathetic trunk innervate the heart.
The aim: of the study was to investigate the influence of WHT on the heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with osteochondrosis of cervical spine (OCS).
Methods: 27 patients (21F/6M) with OCS aged 44±6 were examined. The WHT treatment was adjusted individually to each patient. The course of WHT usually consisted of 10 to 15 procedures, lasting for 15-20 minutes. We studied 5 minutes ECG recording of time domain and frequency domain parameters before and after WHT course.
Wilcoxon criterion was used for statistical analysis.
NOTE: All variables are shown as medians.
Conclusion: WHT of cervical spine intensifies sympathetic and vagal effects on the heart rate.
