Table 52.1 . Basic electrocardiographic data at rest in athletes



Aims: To evaluate the effects of kind of exercise on the basic parameters electrical activity of the heart athletes.


Materials and Methods. We examined 2132 athletes (men and women) aged 6-69 years who have a different experience of different kinds of sports and, who had a similar age and sex.To analyze the results of the ECG taken rest in the supine position. Registration is carried out in 12-leads.


Results: The basis of analysis of the results derived classification sports Mitchell JH et al, 1994. According to the classification of all sports are divided into static components (power level) as measured by the degree of maximum voluntary muscle contraction - MVC (1 - low, 2 - medium 3 - high), and a dynamic component as measured by the level of maximum oxygen consumption –VO2max (A - low , B - medium, C - high).

In 18 cases out of 24 (75%) in heart rate with the highest representatives of the sports component of endurance had significantly lower heart rate, compared with other groups of athletes.

In 7 of the 8 kind of exercises (87.5%) in heart rate from representatives of sports with the highest combination of strength and endurance components had a significantly lower heart rate, compared with other groups of athletes. (Table 82.1).



  1. Static component has no effect on heart rate in athletes, in contrast to the dynamic component of the exercise.
  2. The combination of static and dinamic components can have a summing effects on the heart rate in athletes.
